About Proton Therapy
Proton therapy is a highly advanced, painless and precise form of external beam radiation therapy used in the treatment of many types of cancers and other diseases. Proton therapy has been used to treat 100,000 patients globally.
The characteristics of proton radiation allow clinicians to deliver full or higher doses of radiation while sparing surrounding healthy tissues and organs. Patients who are eligible to receive proton therapy, typically experience minimal to no side-effects during and after treatment.
Proton therapy has been shown to be an exceptional option for childhood cancers. Studies show that using proton therapy to control pediatric tumors provides excellent results while reducing damage to healthy developing tissue thus reducing the likelihood of cancers occurring at other sites in the body.
Proton therapy is ideal for treating solid tumors of the prostate, brain, eye, head and neck, inoperable small cell lung cancer, as well as liver, certain gastrointestinal cancers and certain types of breast cancer.
